Maryland officials discuss partnership between UMB and UMCP

ADELPHI, Md. — Maryland higher education officials have announced plans for a collaborative school of public health between the University of Maryland, College Park, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

University System of Maryland Chancellor William Kirwan made the announcement Tuesday.

The two universities have started the national accreditation process. It’s part of the University of Maryland: MPowering the State collaboration that by the Board of Regents in March.

The idea behind the initiative is to maximize the collective power of the system’s two largest research institutions.

The plan is to offer degree programs across more than one institution, but that are accredited as a single unit.

If approved, officials say the first master of public health students could receive degrees through the collaborative school in 2014.
