About

Located in Montgomery County, in the heart of Maryland’s biotechnology corridor, IBBR is a partnership of UMB, UMCP, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

IBBR’s serves as research and development core between UMB and UMCP that offers state-of-the art analytical and structural biology instrumentation and high-end computation to accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacturing of therapeutics, modern medicines, and vaccines.

Research on novel antimicrobials is ongoing at IBBR.

IBBR forms key alliances with biopharmaceutical companies and federal agencies to develop biomedical and health care solutions and expedite commercialization. Among dozens of projects, researchers are developing vaccines for hepatitis C and other infectious agents.  IBBR also provides national infrastructure support to the biopharmaceutical industry through a nationwide public-private partnership.

Through MPower, IBBR supports teams of researchers in gathering information necessary to take basic research discoveries and advance them to commercial and medical applications.
