MPower Professors Honored in Ceremony

University leaders celebrated 20 MPower Professors during a luncheon on October 4, to recognize their collaborative strategic research.  The MPower Professorship recognizes, incentives, and fosters collaborations between faculty at the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) and the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) who are working together on the most pressing issues of our time.

Three cohorts of MPower Professors, appointed in 2021, 2022, and 2023, were honored at the event, which was held at University House in College Park, MD.  The luncheon was hosted by presidents Darryll Pines, PhD, UMCP and Bruce Jarrell, MD, UMB, together with the MPower Steering Council Jennifer King Rice, PhD and Provost, UMCP, Roger Ward, EdD, JD, MSL, MPA, Provost, and Executive Vice President, UMB, Michele Eastman, MA, MEd, Chief of Staff and Assistant President, UMCP, and Peter Crino, MD, PhD, Chair, Department of Neurology, University of Maryland School of Medicine, UMB.  Deans from 10 Schools and Colleges also attended, as well as Vice President for Research Greg Ball, PhD, and department chairs. The presidents from both UM campuses spoke to the professors honored.

The professorship awards each professor $150,000 allocated over three years to apply to their salary or to support supplemental research activities.

The 20 current MPower Professors are collaborating in the fields of arts and humanities, computer science, dentistry, engineering, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health.  They are:
