Seed Grant Program

A new seed grant program in complex therapeutics is growing out of the two universities’ successful seed grant program in basic and translational research. The seed grant program has resulted in more than $6 million in joint research awards.

New Educational Offerings Between UMCP and UMB

One of the most exciting parts of the joint venture is developing new educational offerings where, for instance, UMCP undergraduates are doing research with top UMB faculty and UMB graduate students are training in the labs of top UMCP faculty.

Health-Related Informatics Center

The new center provides the foundation for research faculty in computer science at UMCP and researchers with expertise in genomics and clinical medicine at UMB and the University of Maryland Medical Center to collaborate on understanding diseases.

The Offices of Technology Transfer and Commercialization at UMCP and UMB have joined together to form UM Ventures, which provides unified licensing and patenting services and joint mar­keting to the business community to increase efficiency and productivity.

Collaborative School of Public Health

Accreditation is being sought for a school that combines College Park’s Master of Public Health Program (MPH) in its School of Public Health with UMB’s MPH Program at the School of Medicine.

UM Baltimore

UMB was founded in 1807. Today, this 71-acre complex houses the state’s only public academic health, law, and human services university. Home of the UM BioPark, UMB’s sponsored research totaled $529 million in Fiscal Year 2012.
