Visiting Fellows in Neuroscience Program
Launched in 2021, offers cross-campus training in neuroscience to graduate students at UMB and UMCP. As of Spring 2023, three cohorts of students have worked with research groups at the opposite campus to acquire new techniques and broaden their training.
Undergraduate Neuroscience Major
The Colleges of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (CMNS) launched a new undergraduate neuroscience major at UMCP in Fall 2020 to train students interested in health care, allied health careers, biomedical industries, and clinical psychology. The neuroscience major offers rigorous training in the interdisciplinary study of brain and behavior designed to prepare students for a broad range of career paths, including scientific research, medicine, clinical psychology, allied health professions, and science-related government, nonprofit, and private sector employment.
As of Fall 2023, there are 357 students enrolled and 77 alumni.
Bachelor of Science | Bachelor of Arts Degree – Immersive Media Design
UMCP’s Colleges of Arts and Humanities and CMNS, the collaboration between science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields and the arts and humanities, offers a degree that prepares students to be leaders in production of augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive media design disciplines. The first degrees for this program are expected in Spring 2024.
The Discovery Fund
This early-stage investment fund created in 2022 with support from MPower targets the development and location of university-created or -sponsored technology companies in Prince George’s County. The fund aims to invest in and advance quantum technologies, data computing and information technologies, augmented and virtual reality, biomedical devices, cybersecurity, data analytics, and neuroscience.
Since 2022, the fund has made investments, totaling $700K, in 5 companies – Medcura, Ion Storage Systems, Hungry Harvest, and BEIT, Inc.
