SAFE Center Girls Leadership Retreat Focuses on Skills to Empower

The Girls Leadership Retreat led by the SAFE Center hosted over 60 girls between the ages of 13 and 18 on June 29, 2024, for a day filled with insight, advice, and experiences.
The retreat, held at the University of Maryland, College Park, was an exceptional opportunity for girls to hear from experienced leaders about developmental skills that will be extremely useful as they navigate their teenage years into adulthood. The aim of the retreat was to empower girls and help them develop their confidence, provide mentorship and guidance, create opportunities for networking, and encourage self-discovery.
This retreat featured the following workshops:
- Financial Education: Providing young participants with valuable insights and skills to budget and save effectively
- Job Skills 101: Designed to equip young women with the tools to kick-start their career including résumé writing and interview techniques
- Career Panel: Firsthand stories shared by industry professionals during an interactive session
- All The Places You’ll Go: Interactive panel exploring different educational paths to take and career opportunities
- So, You’ve Decided to Date: Workshop for teens who are entering the world of dating, focused on providing skills to recognize and address teen dating violence and promote healthy relationships
- Girl Talk: Workshop tailored to health and well-being and encouraging conversations around health and making healthy choices
- Social Media & You: Workshop offering safety tips, building a positive social media presence, and utilizing social media for personal and professional growth
- Social Media Influencing: Workshop focused on empowering participants with strategies to engage audiences, create content, and use digital tools and platforms responsibly to make a positive impact in their communities
